#4 – December 24
Hi, so as the year comes to an end I thought I’d still send out one last post for the year. It was kind of a slow fall for for me but I still got to be part of a couple fun projects.
The Red Bulletin
Some guys from Red Bull got in touch with me and asked if I wanted to take some portraits of the head coach of the EC Red Bull Salzburg Oliver David for the new Red Bulletin Magazine edition.
What was intended to be a 30min timeslot to shoot a couple different options was eventually reduced down to around 10min due to other needs. As I’m used to sprinting with a flash in one and my camera in the other hand already, we still managed to get some nice shots. And it’s always super nice to see your own images printed.
Wings For Life World Run Vienna
Not shot that recently but I covered the Wings For Life World Run Vienna with a couple other amazing photographers in spring and just got the information that one of my pictures was selected as the key visual for this years promotions. I haven’t seen it out in public yet but they should be rolling out soon. Feel free to send me some pictures if you see them around.
Personal Project
An old friend of mine and former classmate Benjamin Rößler needed some portraits taken so we just met up, looked for some interesting corners and cool light. It’s always nice to just play around and see what you can come up with, without anything specific in mind.
Podcast
I had some amazing conversations on my podcast “Gestatten Sie?!” again. Here are some of my Favorites.
It was really nice having Georg Feichtinger, one of the two founders of the creative agency DODO, as a guest. We talked about his journey from the art world into advertising and the industry’s challenges. He explained his view on creative freedom and the value of strategic work and courage in the creative process.
Berlin photographer Lara Baumberger visited me in Vienna to talk about balancing commercial demands with creative freedom. She shared how personal projects refine her unique style, positioning her for assignments that truly inspire her and we discussed her commitment to authenticity on set and her vision for staying creatively open in the future.
Things I’ve seen or heard
I saw this beautiful portrait series shot by amazing photographer Julia Sellmann on Instagram the other day. Wolfgang Joop shot for Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin.
I feel like pretty much everyone in the creative industry knows the New York filmmaker Casey Neistat. I recently listened to this podcast episode by Jon Youshaei with Casey about creativity, the untold financial and emotion costs, how he pitches crazy ideas for videos to the likes of Nike and HBO, his best business advice, break downs of his biggest videos, and much more. I left the interview super inspired and motivated to create. So definitely a big recommendation.
That’s it for this year. I wish you a beautiful Christmas time and an amazing new year. Feel free to let me know if you have any specific ideas or wishes you would like me to include in the newsletter next year.
Have a great day and smile at someone today :)
Talk to you soon
Ulrich
